Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Peoria has been serving communities since its incorporation in July 1942. Since that time, they have served the most vulnerable throughout the Diocese through a variety of outreach programs to provide help and create hope in the lives of those in need, especially in these difficult times. One way you can help to bring hope in these uncertain times is through the Christmas Giving Tree program. The Giving Tree started in 2012, sponsored by participating parishes throughout the Diocese of Peoria, schools, car dealerships in Peoria, OSF, State Farm, and private donations. The Giving Tree program helps support all Catholic Charities outreach programs throughout the year.
This year, due to COVID, the program is being adjusted. Previously we were asked to donate requested gifts. However, this year it was decided to distribute gift cards to meet specific needs identified by the receiving families. The goal is to help 500 families throughout all 26 counties in the Diocese and the hope is to give each family at least $150 in gift cards to provide for their Christmas needs.
Holy Cross will collect donations for this program now through December 4th. You can stop by the Parish Office and pick up a Giving Tree Ornament with a specific gift card request, or make donations by noting on your envelope or check that it is intended for the Giving Tree Project. If you write a check, please make it out to Holy Cross, and we will purchase the necessary gift cards.
There is also an option available with On-Line Giving to donate to Catholic Charites, from November 1st until December 4th. Any contribution is welcome and appreciated!
